About Me

Ben Porter, Photographer

IT ALL STARTED…

Way back when, in the long school holidays, my friends and I made short films in our village. I loved it - the cameras, planning the shots, telling stories through the visual medium. It seemed like a no-brainer to go and study Media and Film at College, and I loved *that* so much that I ended up teaching the coursework module at a sixth form school for 3 years. My tutor always told me that I ‘had an eye’ for framing a shot. I didn’t realise at the time, but he was a published author on the subject, so he knew what he was talking about!

Friends just kept giving me their cameras whenever we all got together, apparently there was just something about the way I took photos. In 2009 I finally decided to take photography seriously, and start learning.

In early 2010 The University of Surrey Photographic Society seemed like the place to start my journey. Great fun was had both attending and teaching workshops on all kinds of techniques with brilliant aspiring photographers, and many wonderful excursions around the UK both for teaching and learning. In late 2011 I became Vice President of the society, and remained so for the next two years.

Fast forwarding just over a decade, I’ve become a husband and a father. Taking photographs is now such a natural part of my life that its highly unusual to find me without a camera in arms reach.  I’ve photographed everything from intimate family portraits in client’s homes to grand weddings in cathedrals, and loved every moment of it.

My aim is to provide a fantastic and memorable experience; whether it's a special occasion, a family shoot or refreshing your business image, I want you to leave our session with a confidence boost and a collection of photos you can treasure and enjoy forever.
